Palmer Case Study

The goal of this case study was to find trends or correlation between the body mass and flipper length of penguins. The data source it from Dr. Kristen Gorman and the Palmer Station, Antarctica LTER, a member of the Long Term Ecological Research Network.

Findings; there appears to be a correlation between the body mass of the penguins and their flipper length when comparing within and outside the species. i would say yes there is a correlation

Cleaned, manipulated, and visualized with Excel

How data was cleaned and manipulated:

  • For the cleaning of data I installed packages to assist in this.

  • Changed body mass from kg to g.

  • Changed flipper length from m to mm.

  • Viewed the columns and column names to make sure there were no typos or null attributes.

  • Viewed each of the three species to make sure it looked clean.

How data was visualized:

  • Checked different styles of graphs to see which was most appropriate and least confusing.

  • Created a chart to show the body mass and flipper length for all three species.

Created a chart to show the body mass for all three species.

Created a chart to show the flipper length for all three species.
